Surnames

Surnames:

For surnames previously listed on my old sites, are now listed at wikitree.com.

My direct line surnames...

Collateral branches...
ALAPAI, HAIKU, MALAILUA.

Hawaiians traditionally did not have surnames.  Surnames came into being because of a law in 1860.  After that the law wasn't always followed, especially in rural areas.

These are the individuals who only go by one name in my database:
Manu, Nakihe.

*Manu is sometimes listed with the last name of NAIHE.  She was married to Nakihe and we theorize that Naihe is a mistake and that it might have got confused with/for Nakihe.  No documents of a Manu Naihe have been found.
