The People of Kaakopua
Most record say great-great grandmother, Emma Keliikekukahilikaleleokalahikiola, was born May 27, 1872, in the district of Kona on the island of Oahu or just Honolulu. One Hawaiian language article says Kuliouou, Oahu and on her daughters marriage certificate it states she was born at Kaakopua, Oahu. Kuliouou, Kaakopua and Honolulu all are part of the Kona district on Oahu, and Kaakopua is considered part of Honolulu today. We also don't use Kona for Oahu nowadays.

Aloha! I am so grateful for your work. I have been researching my father's side of the family and have found many many references to Emma Fern. So far I have located two obituaries in which she seem to be connected to my great grandfather's siblings. This is also recorded in census data and on marriage records. The articles are written in Hawaiian (and I am not fluent). Aside from the paper trail, my father was told there are connections between the Fern, Lono, and Kauhane/Moekauhane families of Kukuihaele, Waimea, and Kohala. I still can't figure out exactly how. I would love to know if you have run across any Kauhane's in your research. Emma seems to have been very celebrated among them. It is wonderful to learn more about her. Mahalo!
